A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW

A war is brewing, more truths will be revealed, and loyalties must be decided, but Fate's not finished with any of them yet.

Julie and Daniel have weathered many storms together already, but the biggest are still yet to come. With a wedding on the horizon and major life changes headed their way, the couple is tremendously tested. The dreams continue to haunt Julie with eerie premonitions and Daniel is called upon to serve the Lycan Council as a leader in settling the unrest in the clans. Complications continue to escalate as Richard re-enters the picture and tempts Julie while enraging Daniel with his seductive charm. Richard proves to be a vampire on a mission with only one goal – Julie. The turmoil Julie experiences in her confused emotions towards Richard is heightened as she learns more about the man behind the obsession. She finds comfort in the discovery of her mother's family and the knowledge as well as love they provide is invaluable. However, the werewolves are back with a vengeance and a betrayal is revealed that will shake-up the Lycan community.

With every choice made there is a consequence and in the end good will prevail, but at what cost?

The saga continues in this second installment to the kNight series. Ms. Mitchell has a profound way of story telling that is quite poetic. Once again, she takes us on an incredible adventure with mystical beings and spiritual awakenings that enrapture the reader. There are such all-consuming, heart-wrenching emotions tied into this story all seen through Julie’s eyes that will make you want to be her and glad that you’re not. The realities she faces are unimaginable, yet believable in the riveting world Ms. Mitchell created.

Plenty of humorous moments highlight the story. Amongst my favorite is when Casey, in an attempt to bring Julie out of her depression, takes her to a racetrack where other vampires have gathered. It created a fun and pivotal moment for Julie and Richard and allowed them all to seem normal. As a reader, Richard's appeal and allure are undeniable, and I was pleased with the level of focus he received in this story. I look forward to seeing where Ms. Mitchell decides to take his story.

The level of eroticism and sensuality in the story is turned up a notch and not in the least bit unpleasant. With a fast-paced and intense plotline, and amazing characters with a supernatural twist, it’s no wonder this series is highly ranked by so many fan’s of this genre. Sadly, I will have to wait to find out what happens next as the third in the series is not due to release until later this year.

T.L. Mitchell is a phenomenal author with an unparalleled series that has huge potential for the silver screen. A highly recommended must read!

A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW

Our fate is sometimes unfair and our destiny at times unclear, but we must never forget to always have faith.

Julie Knight knows how fortunate her life has been. A successful plastic surgeon for a father has afforded her a comfortable lifestyle and choices in life that many never attain. However, not all is without consequence and the early choices her parents made left Julie without a mother.

After receiving the phone call informing her of her father’s death, Julie heads back home from college to find the people she can depend on as family keeping secrets from her. Keeping her emotions under control proves easier than the immediate attraction she feels for the enigmatic Daniel Maxwell. Having his family to fall back on during this difficult time requires a lot of trust and patience, but has provided Julie a safe and loving environment.

When Julie learns of the circumstances surrounding her father’s death and the companies in which he was a part of, questions arise. Her determination in seeking answers is evident and the Maxwell’s are supportive, but when strange animal attacks occur, their support turns to concern. It’s time to tell Julie who and what she really is.

Ms. Mitchell tells this story with an incredible story-telling quality that captures the reader’s heart and mind. Julie goes through some really profound personal life lessons that many can relate to, which makes connecting with her easy. Julie is without a doubt an admirable character. Her intelligence, wit, and loving nature is fluidly expressed throughout the story. Since the story is told from Julie’s point of view, the reader journeys with her in discovery of her heritage. The romantic development between Julie and Daniel is filled with heartfelt emotional need and sexual tension. Their relationship takes on some extreme challenges as they continue to navigate their way through Lycan law.

The primary paranormal focus is on Lycans, which are not to be confused with werewolves because those are in this story as well, but are actually the mortal enemy of the Lycans. This Lycan world is aggressive and intense and Ms. Mitchell clearly put a lot of thought into how she wanted it to be portrayed. Brilliantly well done!

The secondary characters provide extra entertainment with their colorful personalities and the surprise twists in the plotline leaves me craving more. There is quite a mixture of emotion, mystery, action, and drama in this unpredictable tale that is completely seducing. A must read for any lover of paranormal romance!

Those stinky werewolves are back! And they have something more going for them – genetic enhancement. Dark Wolves roam the night, killing Lycans who've strayed away from their preordained path. And with the Lycan Council pursuing a new leader in Daniel Maxwell, civil war threatens to destroy the Lycan clans. It's up to Daniel to bring peace and rebirth to the Lycans, even as he finds his love for Julie tested, not only by the werewolves and the week-long Mating Rite, but by the “inhumanely beautiful vampire” who had saved her life and desires her for his own. Richard MacArthur exudes a strange and powerful control over Julie whenever they are together. It drives her lust for him and makes her forget about Daniel, threatening to end their deep, abiding love.

When Julie meets her mother's family, she learns secrets that tip her life dizzily on its axis. Amassing werewolves once again threaten her life, her death looming as certainly as her next breath. Who will step forward to risk his life to save hers? And with her mind and will under Richard's control, what will come of Julie and Daniel's love should she survive?

Fall of kNight is the second book in the first trilogy of the kNight series by T.L. Mitchell. After a somewhat slow start, Ms. Mitchell provides a super suspense-filled follow-up to Dark of kNight. I recommend you read these two books in order as the second builds upon the first. In this one, there aren't as many editing errors, with words left out or spare ones left in. Once again, the story is told from Julie's upbeat and often reflective perspective. The plot is complex and powerful, with very little predictability and a formal quality that I'm getting used to. The mystery surrounding Fort Mountain continues, an element of the story I find particularly interesting, if not riveting. And I loved the strategically inserted bits of humor that work to relieve the intensity that often has you sitting on the edge of your seat or reaching for a tissue to wipe away your tears. Overall, the sex is more erotic in this book than in Dark of kNight, and despite the title of book one, the plot of Fall of kNight is a little darker than that of its predecessor.

Ms. Mitchell's characters are again masterfully fleshed out in light of the first person point of view. I was much more drawn to Richard in this book, my heart aching for his consuming, unavailing love for Julie, who is now more confident in and comfortable with her “wolfie” nature and abilities. She's more in command as an alpha female and much more fierce. Aside from his whiney or violent mistrust of Julie and Richard – which made him a bit less appealing in this book – Daniel remains the strong, dependable and tender-hearted lover. Ultimately, he exhibits a enlightened understanding of Julie's deep affection for Richard that is emotionally touching. As he grows more powerful and decisive towards the end of the book, he fully redeems himself. Overall, the man H-O-T hot, one of the most seductive and powerful heroes I've come across in my years of reading romance.

As a NASCAR fan since 1987, I loved the racing segment, however unlikely, with the vampires renting Atlanta Motor Speedway for a couple of evenings of vampires turned stock car drivers. Ms. Mitchell was doing a commendablejob with authenticity until she unfortunately had Richard winning the race on the white flag lap. It leads me to believe if she ever watches NASCAR races, because anyone's who's watched a race knows that it isn't over until the checkered flag flies. The white flag means one lap to go. And does D.W. know he's a vampire? How cool would that be, race fans?

In the end, Ms. Mitchell leaves you anticipating the November 2011 release of Dawn of kNight with bated breath. She also has a second trilogy planned for the series that will feature Richard, who just keeps getting yummier and yummier.

Intrigued by werewolves and vampires? Then look no further than the novella The NightMan, by T.L. Mitchell.

This novel, though only 55 pages long, is an erotic thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat with excitement and tantalized taste buds. Mitchell knows how to evoke a mysterious atmosphere, despite her approach not being of the most original: “A thick foggy mist floated silently through the trees, drifting down to the cold wintry ground.” Still, there is much for her young adult audience to appreciate, especially if you come to her work with minimal exposure to more evolved writing.

The historical background of the story is traced back to “the mid-evil times of Ireland, [when] Vikings invaded the Irish some 26 times following their first appearance on the island.” The characters are as believable as they can be in the paranormal genre, with more attention being paid to their superficial appearance than to the inner workings of their psyches: “The coats they wore complimented [sic] the frilly shirts and appeared to be more of the English formal ware.”

The plot itself is fairly straightforward. The NightMan tells of Caitlin, a beautiful woman who is caught between the control of a ruthless vampire and her yearning to be truly loved. The object of her desire is Adriel, the NightMan, who longs, in turn “to give Caitlin the love of a man who would truly love the very breath which left her body.” What holds him back from doing so is his transformation into “a tall, monstrously wicked and evil creature.” Their erotic encounter is described with fervor and in graphic detail by the ardent Mitchell, who portrays the two lovers as being consumed by hunger and desire for each other.

The NightMan will most probably find a wide audience among older teens and young adults who have yet to learn a great deal about life and relationships. As the genre is extremely popular at the moment, with much coverage both on screen and in text, the novella should receive a rapturous welcome from those who enjoy light reading and an uncomplicated plot.

Tantalizing Tuesday:  Author Spotlight

Moonlight, Lace & Mayhem

To say this past week has been a "blur" is an understatement. Besides having gone by faster than I even noticed, with my new glasses falling apart and my using my older pairs, even more blurry than that. I used my previous pair which was 3 steps weaker than my new pair, and the transition back has been full of headaches, so I haven't done much reading. Then on Monday, yesterday, I remembered something that the doctor said about one of the other older pairs of glasses I still had sitting around. It was 2 steps stronger than my previous pair, which would make it only 1 step weaker than my new pair, so I put them on. After most of the day, I noticed a reduction in headaches and was finally able to read again - yay! That's kind of what I was doing today. I picked up Dark of kNight by T.L. Mitchell, our guest for today and found myself very absorbed in the story.

While it isn't dialogue driven as is the newest trend in books, it is in a first-person pov and, while I'm not sure I have a clear picture of what the main character looks like yet, I happen to be in her head and pretty-well able to see what she sees. If it isn't picture perfect I can write it off to the notion that maybe she isn't all that observant when it comes to her own surroundings, as not everyone is observant all the time, especially in times of crisis, like what Julie (the main character) finds herself having to deal with when the book begins.

Her father has died and it is a family friend, and his long-time business partner, that tells her. To say he is controlling is an understatement, but he has a soft-spot for his daughter, Casey, and that much is evident.

I really like how this story pulls you along through the main character and really lets you see what she feels as she feels it. If the rest of the book is this way, it should be a fascinatingly good read!

Let's get to the reason you're here, the interview! In honor of April 15th being tax day, we’re asking 15 questions this month.

ME: Speaking of taxes, are you’re taxes finished, or do you procrastinate with them? Do you do them yourself or do you have a taxman do them for you?

TRACEY: My taxes are finished for the year. I do always try to file them on time after I have received all my information. I have always completed my tax returns myself.

ME: As it says, “April showers bring May flowers”. What flowers do you hope to see the first thing in spring?

TRACEY: The flowers I love to see in the spring are Daffodils and Tulips. Growing up, we always had a spring garden filled with a variety of colors of these flowers.

ME: Do you plant your own garden? Why or why not and where is it (are they) located?

TRACEY: Yes, I do plant my own garden. I love gardens and enjoy the work. In the past I have usually planted several small gardens around the house.

ME: Do you prefer plants or seeds? Does it matter where you get them, or do you have a favorite place to go? What’s the name of the place and why do you prefer to go there?

TRACEY: I prefer plants. Seeds take a little too much time and I have never had much success with them. It really doesn’t matter where I buy the plants, it just depends on what I’m looking for at the particular time. Specialty colored roses I usually order from Jackson & Perkins. I look for specific colors and like hybrid roses.

ME: What will you plant (or have already planted) this year and why?

TRACEY: Since I have just moved, I don’t think I will be planting a flower garden this year. Maybe after I am more settled I will start planting.

ME: Do you have any plants that are must haves for your garden, ones that it just won’t be complete without?

TRACEY: For me, the musts are roses, bearded iris, daffodils, bleeding hearts and lilacs.

ME: For your produce, is the local grocery store just fine, or do you like to hit your local farmer’s market? What is your favorite fruit or vegetable that you do like to get?

TRACEY: I seriously have a problem with the local produce at the grocery store. I prefer to buy my produce at a local farmers market or grow it myself. My ideal choice of shopping when I lived in Florida was an Organic Grocery store called Evermann’s. My favorite fruit varies. It depends on what I have a taste for that week. I love pineapple, bananas, mangos and papaya. For vegetables, summer squash is my favorite.

ME: Now that we've learned a bit about you, let's learn a bit about your writing. What is your main genre (erotica, erotic romance, romantic suspense, etc.)? What was the draw for you?

TRACEY: My main genre is paranormal romance.

ME: Besides your main genre we just discussed, what elements do you prefer to use in a story and why those elements over others?

TRACEY: The elements I use in my story are mystery and suspense. Personally, I love to read a story with both. I figure if I can write a story that will keep me interested, I know it will keep the readers interested.

ME: Do you prefer red roses or black roses? If so, does that show in your writing? If so, how? If roses aren’t your style, what flowers are? Do they influence your writing? If so, how?

TRACEY: I prefer red roses. I would say it does show in my writing. Red roses represent love. Actually, in my novel Dark of kNight I mention roses. The rose I speak of is a white rose. It’s name is called peace. In the prologue and a dream scene the heroine, Julie Knight dreams of a rose garden. Her life has changed so drastically …not to give any spoilers out, but she looks for peace. In the dream, she sees this white rose, its scent is so delicate and she recognizes it as Peace. The last statement she makes, “I reached my hand through the fog to collect my prize; my peace.” It is a very strong statement for a young woman who has gone through so much in her life in such a short time.

ME: The jury’s still out on this question, so we’re still asking it! - Who decides what you write about, you or your muse? What kind of influence do you have over your story, or is the muse always the one planting the seeds? How do you cultivate those seeds regardless of who plants them?

TRACEY: I find myself very fortunate to have a publisher who allows me to write the stories I enjoy. My publisher, Wild Horse Press, and I stay in close contact with one another when I’m working on a new project or idea. Sometimes, if a story hits me - I just write it. Prime example, The NightMan. The NightMan was story that burned to be told.

Personally I have heard complaints from readers who are reading cookie-cutter books. The characters of these books maybe different but the story is still the same. Readers want variety and something new and fresh. As a writer, I believe you lose your creative flare when you are told what to write. To make an impression on readers I believe you have to set your heart free as a writer. The vision you create for your readers is important. They want to feel apart of the characters, feel emotion and see a vivid picture of events. I don’t think I could ever write for a publisher who dictated “what” I needed to write. If that were ever the case…I would open my own publishing company. J

ME: In your opinion, what author had the most influence on your writing? What about their writing did you find so influential and why?

TRACEY: OMG, I’m caught between two authors. When I first started writing many years ago, it was Stephen King. I read so many of his books and developed his flare for horror and suspense. Quite a few years ago I was introduced to Karen Marie Moning and her books. Moning’s writing was exactly what I loved. She carried the mystery, suspense and humor in her stories. Along with a wonderful romantic tale.

ME: While authors can definitely influence us, inspiration can be everywhere for a writer, but specific people, places and events can inspire certain characters, personality traits or things that happen in our stories. In your current story that we’re promoting here today, Dark of kNight, did any one particular person, place or event inspire you? If so who/what was it (were they), how did it/they inspire you and how is this inspiration reflected in your story?

TRACEY: The story of Dark of kNight began as a series of dreams, actually nightmares. The dreams were so vivid and clear, some mornings I would wake up with my heart pounding in my chest. I couldn’t understand why I was having these series of dreams. After about the third dream I started writing them down. Before long, I realized this may make a good book. After writing the first draft a friend of mine read over the story and loved it. She encouraged me to keep writing and finish it into a full length novel. Which after the final draft, I ended up with Dark of kNight. The story was truly based on a series of haunting dreams.

ME: Without giving away anything pertinent to the story, tell us about the hero and heroine (s) of your story. What do they look like? How do they meet (or “did” if this is a second book with these same characters)? What are their personalities – Are they comical cut-ups, are they serious or are they a mix of the two? Please give us a little bit of dialogue from the story that can illustrate this. (Not much, but just a few lines and from a different section than the main excerpt – Thanks!)

TRACEY: The heroine and hero of Dark of kNight is Julie Knight and Daniel Maxwell. Julie is tall, slender built( a little on the athletic side), long dark brown hair and light brown eyes. She has olive/tan skin (which is answered in Fall of kNight). Daniel Maxwell, handsome, tall (6’4”), well built- not overly but very smooth, his hazel green eyes complements his black hair. Which he does have somewhat of a dark appearance.

Daniel and Julie have always known one another. Their families were close- even when they were children. Daniel has always loved Julie from the first kiss. He has never wanted anyone else other than Julie. The two went their separate ways - only to be reunited by the death of her father. Years had passed between the two of them, but the love Daniel had for Julie remained. This time he wasn’t going to fail.

OH comical cut ups? Of course! This is one thing I love about writing. There are quite a few between Julie and Daniel. But my favorite is with their friends Jason and Heather. Now, if you could picture a group of wolf shape shifters, young and out for a good time at a very nice restaurant, you would have something like this:

“Several stories crossed the table of Daniel and Jason’s fishing expositions. One of which was the story of the big one getting away. Not to mention how drunk they were one night when they thought they saw the Loch Ness Monster. Daniel said it was the moon moving on the waves of the lake. Jason swore it was Nessie which had tipped the boat and caused him to fall into the lake. We all laughed as Daniel reminded his dear friend he had never seen such a brave heart as his friend pulled his trousers down to moon the so-called monster when he fell backwards over the boat.”

ME: The main characters are usually great, but sometimes, secondary and tertiary characters are known to steal the scenes. Who are the secondary/tertiary characters in your story and what do they look like? What’s unique about them? What is their relationship to the hero/heroine? Have any of these gone on to become scene-stealers? If so, who and how did they do it? (Again, please give us a small bit of dialogue to illustrate this – thanks!)

TRACEY: I have been very pleased with the response to my cast of secondary characters. Like I mentioned above Jason and Heather McLaughlin. Jason is a purebred Irish pup and he has the personality of someone who will make you laugh even when you don’t want to. Heather, is petite just a little over 5’4”, she has a pixie-like hair cut. She is not Irish, but loves her purebred Irish wolf lad Jason. She is not as wild as Jason, but they make for a very cute couple and compliment each other wonderfully.

Jason and Daniel met in Scotland, while Daniel was working on bio-genetic research. They are both scientists and are employed by a company co-owned by Daniel and Julie’s father.

Scene stealers? If you read the book you will notice Heather is a little reserved. So this particular scene was a stealer for her. CAUTION SPOILERS* This scene happens immediately after Julie and Daniel discover the vampires (Richard and Nathaniel). Richard shows a particular interest in Julie, which causes Daniel to become very protective over his wolf girl.

I turned toward Daniel and he looked to me in concern.

“I don’t like that Richard.” He huffed.

“Because he has a thing for me?” I teased.

“I better be the only one that has a thing for you!” He growled. “Besides can a vampire actually have an erect…”

“Daniel!” I shot at him in surprise.

“Well, I was just wondering.” He shot back.

Heather and Jason walked up to us. “Rumor has it, they are huge.” She said as she laughed and darted off changing into her wolf image.

Jason roared loudly with laughter as he followed her changing into his wolf image. There was no way I could contain my laugh when I looked into Daniel’s astonished face. I unzipped his robe and slid it off his shoulders. The shock was still on his face. Smiling I slipped out of my robe. I began to walk away from Daniel.

I turned my head slightly to the side. “Darling, you have nothing to worry about.” I purred as I laughed and burst forth into my wolf image.

Interview with T.L. Mitchell

Jen: This week we are happy to welcome T.L. Mitchell to Romancing the Book. Tracey, will you please share a short bio with us?

Tracey: Currently I live in Virginia where I have been spending my time enjoying the view of the mountains while writing. My debut novel, Dark of kNight was released in the 2nd edition by Wild Horse Press in November of 2009. Since then, I have completed Fall of kNight (kNight Series Book 2) and a new short story collection The NightMan (Book 1 The Eternal Love Collection).

Jen: Tell us about Fall of kNight your upcoming release and where it’s available.

Tracey: Fall of kNight is the continuing story of Julie kNight and Daniel Maxwell in the kNight Series.

The story picks up where Dark of kNight ends. Julie thinks her life is normal, at least for a Lycan. She becomes more acquainted with her new lifestyle as a wolf-shape shifter. However, just when things seem normal, the threat of the werewolves return. Not to mention the inhumanly beautiful vampire, Richard Macarthur. Richard’s desire for Julie turns dangerously seductive as he is determined to make her his…forever.

The story holds the readers with the same suspense and mystery as in Dark of kNight. New characters and surprises are added. However, the colorful cast of original characters still remain.

Fall of kNight will be available in Ebook and Amazon Kindle May 18th. You can pre-order Fall of kNight at All Romance Ebooks http://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-fallofknight-427353-139.html.

Jen: At what age did you discover writing and when were you first published? Tell us your call story.

Tracey: I discovered writing when I was sixteen. It was an English writing assignment. The teacher gave us one sentence to finish a two page short story. I had no idea what to write. Finally with pen in hand I just started writing what ever came to my mind. The story started unfolding in front of my eyes. Before I realized it, I had written more than 2 pages. I shortened the story and submitted my work the next day. I received two “A’s” for the work with a note from the teacher saying “See me after class.”. He wanted to encourage me to consider writing as a career. I still remember his words and wish I had as much faith in myself as he did when I was that age. It took me over twenty-five years to gain the courage to have my work considered for publishing.

In 2009, I published my debut novel Dark of kNight through Author House Publishing. In November 2009, Dark of kNight was re-edited and re-published by Wild Horse Press. And so the story begins with the kNight Series Books.

Jen: How does your family feel about your career?

Tracey: They are very supportive. I’ve had their help with book trailers and tossing around scene ideas for feed back. They love the kNight Series.

Jen: Describe your writing in three words.

Tracey: Suspenseful, Passionate and Entertaining.

Jen: Do you have a writing routine?

Tracey: Not really. I usually try and write some on a story everyday. If a story or scene hits me pretty hard I stick with it until its done. For example, The NightMan, I started writing the story around 8 am and didn’t complete it until 5am the next morning. Yes, I took breaks, but I couldn’t stop writing.

Jen: What’s the most challenging aspect of writing? Easiest?

Tracey: I think the most challenging aspect of writing is the characters. Character personalities are as important as the storyline. You want each character to become alive and thrive with individuality. Keeping in mine their dialogue is very important. Not every character should act or speak the same.

The easiest part of writing for me, I would say story lines. I like to be creative and try to come up with something fresh or a new perspective. My imagination is always going in different directions.

Jen: Do you have a favorite character or one you most identify with?

Tracey: Most of my readers would probably think Richard, the vampire in the kNight Series is probably my favorite character. I would probably have to agree. Richard is a character who is fun to write. He is draw to the heroine in ways he can’t explain. His vampire side is drawn to her blood, while his male nature is drawn to her beauty. It’s a double whammy for him. He knows he has the abilities, both in a dangerously seductive manner as well his vampire nature to take her. Richard wants Julie, but he wants her to submit herself willingly to him. He will not take her by force. His character is very strong. You feel his pain of loneliness. You experience his tragic loss through his words and expressions. He is a character who is skilled in the methods of seduction. Its not just a vampire thing---this boy has skills! I would say he is one of the most interesting characters I have ever written.

Jen: What five authors or people, from the past or present, have been important to you as an author? What question or comment have you always wanted to say to them.

Tracey: Paranormal romance authors, Shannon Bailey, Tamela Quijas, Bonnie Elliott have been very close and dear author friends of mine. They have been very supportive in my writing and encouraging as I grow and develop deeper as an author. Another dear person I would not forget to mention is the one everyone knows at Amazon- Grammy. She is a wonderful supporter and also dear friend to us paranormal romance authors. As an avid reader- she’s there to give us feedback when we need it. She is very honest and tells you up front if the story stinks or not! Which is what we need. Someone who is honest with us and keeps us grounded. My publisher Wild Horse Press has been a great experience for me. Truly guiding and working with me. It takes a good publisher with patience to work with writers. They are very supportive and encouraging as well.

I tell them this when I can: “I love you guys! & Thanks for your friendship, your love and just being a shoulder to cry on when the reviews aren’t so good.”

Jen: Most people only dream of becoming a published writer. Now that you’ve accomplished that goal is there anything else you dream of doing?

Tracey: Good question. Accomplishing the goal of becoming a published writer/author is just the beginning. I love to write and want to continue writing more entertaining books. My next two goals are: 1 to have a NY Times Best Seller and have Dark of kNight and the kNight Series made into a movie. Among those goals I want to enter writing contests and further my writing skills. In other words, I want to be the best author I can possibly become. I have never started a project just to complete it without mastering the technique and skill. Writing is a passion I love and I want the readers to feel that passion when I write.

Jen: What do you do in your free time?

Tracey: Watch movies! I love movies. When I need a break and just relax I go out to dinner with a friend and we usually catch a movie. Movies are always my way of relaxing and taking a breath of fresh air from the writing world.

Jen: What’s next for you?

Tracey: The next book I have coming out June 22nd is The NightMan. A delicious short story of one woman, one werewolf and one vampire. It’s a thrill ride from start to finish of how one mysterious night can change the lives of three people. Dark of kNight has been submitted to a professional screen writer. Hopefully my next dream will come into play and I will be watching Dark of kNight in the theaters.

Currently I’m working on Dawn of kNight(Book 3 kNight Series) and a fantasy novel Sword of Alkatar which will be finished shortly (I hope).

Jen: Where can you be found on the web?

Jen: Is there anything you’d like to ask our readers?

Tracey: I love feedback from readers. Tell me what you like in the stories you read. What kinds of stories do you prefer? and why?

I also want to share that Dark of kNight was accepted by screenwriter Gordon Hayes. He is currently working on the screenplay. Fall of kNight, (Book 2 of the kNight Series) made it to #5 Hot New Releases Amazon Kindle Family Saga & made it in the top 100 for Amazon's Kindle Best Sellers in Family Saga during its three day debut!!! Exciting News!!!!

Jen: Readers, Tracey is giving away a signed copy of Dark of kNight and a signed copy of Fall of kNight when it becomes available in paperback this fall to one lucky winner. Julie Knight's life is changed in a breathless instant, when she learns of the gruesome death of her beloved father. Reeling from the unimaginable loss, she returns to the small, southern town of Spring Place, GA. There she is comforted by friends she thinks of as family, confused by feelings for a man who is nothing like the one she once knew, and baffled by mysterious dreams of a haunting destiny.

Daniel Maxwell is no longer the awkward young man with eyes only for his sister's best friend. He is a handsome, charming, accomplished scientist...with eyes only for his sister's best friend. Not only does he ache to ease Julie's heartbreak over the loss of her father, he is determined to protect her from an ominous fate.

Julie learns it isn't only the past that draws her to Daniel, but a Lycan heritage that also ties them as mates in a sinister fate that could tear them apart forever. Together, they will forge alliances with other creatures of the night in an effort to save each other, and the love that binds them, from the deadly pack that roams the Dark of kNight.

I enjoyed this story immensely! Ms. Mitchell writes with a poetic voice, painting a vivid world filled with engaging characters that spoke to this southerner's romantic heart. She combines strong elements of traditional romance with fresh slants on paranormal lore, and adds enough suspense and intrigue to keep the pages turning, and your heart longing for more. I look forward to more of this wonderful series from this talented author!

Hey All , Are you into the whole Supernatural theme at the moment . No Im not talking about ghosts, demons , fallen angels. This one goes with the theme of books like Twilight and Kelley Armstrong's books Men and Woman of the otherworld. This one has Lycans - which funnily enough I had never heard that word till I watched the movies Underworld -though of course its like been around for yonks. Werewolves and Vampires. In this Novel -the Werewolves are the baddies and The Lycans are the good folk and Vampires are like a miniority. This novel is for those who prefer a bit more coverage of Lycans/Werewolves rather than the other supernatural Creature of the Vampire. This makes a good change , as Vampires have been quite publicised lately.

Today's Book Review comes from New Author TL Mitchell and is the start of a new series by her called "Dark of kNight" - The series is going to be called "of kNight".

When Julie finds out she is actually a Lycan and so his Daniel's family it puts her in danger . Can their love be strong enough to protect them from danger and each other ? What happens when Werewolves, Lycans and a group of Vampires meet - Is it going to be a bloodbath ?. Can Vampires and Lycans live in peace ?. 10 Ways To Lose Bella

by Jacob Black

Written by T.L. Mitchell

1.  Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.  I should have never mentioned Edward Cullen to Bella.

2.  I should've kissed Bella when she told me I was beautiful.  Even if she did bump her head.

3. Trying to hold Bella's hand when we left the movie after Mike got sick.

4. The evening I saved Bella's life, she invited me into her house.  I didn't go- instead I had to say "I have a vampire to kill."

5. I was being more of a werewolf than a suitor.

6. The worst one, I answered her stupid phone in the middle of a kiss.

7.  When Bella and I were in the truck, I went for the kiss and she backed away.  I should have just grabbed and kissed her.

8.  Begging like a puppy.

9.  Not saying I love you when I had the chance.

10. Not having enough faith in myself that I was just as, if not more important in Bella's life than that Cullen leech.

Here we have 10 interesting ways Jacob Black says he lost Bella Swan.  What do you think?  I personally don't think it had anything to do with the fact he was a werewolf.  Even Jacob said Bella was good with weird.  I think for another point of view on this mysterious mishap of a romance, Daniel Maxwell might have some good pointers for our young wolfman.

Jacob, women love men who are confident.  The first kiss I had with Julie, well it was not the best kiss, but it was enough to make me not let her go.  I admit, I managed to say the some things to Julie at the wrong time.  Well, she was pretty upset with me, but I smoothed it over very well.

The biggest thing, when a woman asks you over never say no.  Bella wanted to spend some quality time with you.  Sam could have handled Victoria!  For instance, I practically pushed my way into Julie's house.  My excuse was to stay with her and protect her.  Which I meant with all my heart.  Truth was, I didn't think she would ask me to stay over.  So that one night was the ice breaker.  A storm was upon us, Julie seemed a little nervous.  I sat down on the sofa and motioned for her to join me. I then scooped her in my arms and softly told her a story.  This was something you could have done with Bella that night she invited you into the house.

One more thing, the werewolf rage.  It can be controlled!  I almost lost Julie to her own fear of me.  But, I never pushed her away from me.  I gave Julie the time she needed and worked my way into her life.  When she learned to depend on me, much like Bella had begun to do with you, you should have tagged it and bagged it.  She would have been your woman...and not that vampire Edward!

Best of Luck Next Time!

Who Bought New Moon?

Savy Readers Book Shelf

Kate of The Neverending Shelf made me think about YA and the title that popped to mind was Twilight. And the fact that I just picked up my copy of the DVD New Moon today. So I decided to see who had and who had not joined me in consumer bliss. Share if you have, have not, why, or why not.

T.L. Mitchell - I have to admit, I purchased the movie New Moon, the second movie in the Twilight Saga. My interest in the movie was primarily because of the books. Paranormal Romances containing vampires and/or werewolves have always interested me. My collection of movies contain primarily my favorites. Since I have the entire collection of Stephanie Myers books, and the first Twilight Movie - I didn't think it would be a bad idea to continue on with the series.

The New Moon, in my opinion was better than Twilight. I loved the brightness and colors. Although I was disappointed with a few things in the movie- they left out a few detail which would have been helpful. Certain parts were very good and descriptive and played right along with the book. One thing I wished they had included in the movie was more of the conversation between Bella and Edward with turning her into a vampire. They hit on the subject a couple of times, but Bella was very persistant about this in the books. I did like the ending and was glad to see they included the ultimate cliff hanger. Over all, I did enjoy the movie.

Antonia Tiranth - I actually didn't buy New Moon; a friend bought it for me. ^.^ I'll be honest and say that I was going to purchase it for myself but she beat me to it. Why did I want it? Well, part of it is, I have Twilight and I'm a big fan of owning a series all out so I have to buy it to complete the set. The other part of it is, despite the myriad of problems I have with the series, at its heart there is an interesting story ~Tir

The Dark of kNight of T.L. Mitchell

We have T.L. Mitchell is in the Friday Author Spotlight. Let's find out about the Dark of kNight.

T.L. Mitchell currently lives in Virginia. She enjoys the views of the mountains and fresh air while working on her new paranormal romance series. On her days off she loves going out to dinner with friends, catching the latest movies and riding four wheelers with the family. She is a NASCAR fan and enjoys watching the races and hopes to meet her favorite driver one day.

Among writing, T.L. also enjoys reading. Some of her favorite authors include Karen Marie Moning, Shannon Bailey and Tamela Quijas.

Ms. Mitchell enjoys a variety of music from Korn to Creed. She says listening to the right type of music while she writes helps set the mood for some interesting scenes in her story. On her website she features some of the new albums she enjoys listening to while writing.

Mitchell's current books include Dark of kNight, her debut novel of the Dark of kNight Series. Other books coming soon are Fall of kNight, Dawn of kNight and The NightMan Collection. Her future works will include the remaining 4 books in the Dark of kNight Series as well as a her new Fantasy novel.

Here's T. L Mitchell in her own words:

When I started writing as a profession I was 40 years old. It took me 3 years to write my first novel and exactly 1 month to rewrite it for publication. Writing has always interested me and I found it very therapeutic. Readers are not the only one's who enjoy a break from their normal day lives. Writers and authors become involved in the lives of their characters as well.

It is very difficult to say who my favorite character is in my stories. Each one has their own little quirks and attitudes. If I had to choose from my current published works, I would say it was Richard. He has been the most fun to write. Richard is a vampire. One of the most dangerously seductive vampires I could imagine. There are things that only he could do to a woman that would take her breath away. Anything I could imagine went into Richard's character. He is strong, sexy and very confident. A vampire who knows what he wants and goes after it. He is such a bad boy.

The author who has been a great mentor to me and helped me understand more of the writing, publishing arena is Shannon Bailey. Mrs. Bailey is the author of a very unique vampire story Forever David's and Develyn's Tale. She has also written The Haunted Hillerman House, a very captivating mystery romance. Shannon has been a great friend and always a great teacher when it come to writing and editing. Whenever I had a problem with my writing style, or wanted to accomplish a certain feel in my writing Shannon would always come through for me. She has a wonderful gift with her own unique writing style. I think it is very important for a new author to have a mentor. Especially one who allows for your own unique style to come through. Also a good friend to discuss your ideas. Sometimes they can help you with that terrifying writer's block we all suffer from now and again. I will have to add J.M. Smith, my new publisher to this list. Since WildHorse Press has taken over the kNight Series Books, I have found Mrs. Smith to be a great help in my goals as a writer and a great director in my writing.

My readers send me messages through my website every now and then. Mostly they all say the same thing I love to hear over and over again "I just love your new series!". As with any author, we love to know the readers enjoy our work. Especially when they relate to one of our characters and are really drawn into the series. When I hear of readers who cried with my characters or was emotional distraught over a very rough scene in the book I know I've done my job as a writer. There were times in each one of my books, Dark of kNight and Fall of kNight I cried so hard I had to leave the computer. When a write is in tune with their characters to this extent you know the readers will enjoy it. Most of the questions I am asked are "When is the next book coming out?" and "Who is Julie going to end up with?"

The first question I can usually answer, however the second question I can't reveal. Readers will have to wait until the third book to finally find out who with Julie end up with. Whether it be Daniel or Richard, the main story line will be enough to keep readers satisfied with the story and ending.

Dark of kNight

I have read a couple of ebooks published by Wild Horse Press which include ebooks by Jessica Coulter Smith, Linda Palmer and Paige Warren. So when Wild Horse Press contacted me to inquire if I accepted review requests from publishers and asked me if I would like to review T.L. Mitchell's debut novel Dark of kNight, which is the first book of her Dark of kNight series and I accepted. I love their website because it is so clean and easy to find everything you would like to know about their authors, books and submission guidelines and more. I might really consider submitting my manuscript to them if I ever get it finished and editing enough to fit their requirements for submission. I found out that T.L. had previously self-published this novel with AuthorHouse but pulled it out and decided to have it re-issued in a second edition in eBook format with Wild Horse Press. Well onto the book review for T.L. Mitchell's debut novel, Dark of kNight, that I will say right off I really enjoyed reading and I would love to read the next book in the series. The heroine of the novel and series is Julie Knight and she never really knew how much her life would change after the death of her beloved father. So after returning home to Spring Place, GA, the mysterious animal attacks begin that start to change her world in ways that she never knew possible. The small town is in an uproar over the horrific killings and that is when Julie finds herself in danger when the truth of who she is has finally been revealed to her. The last of a thousand year old bloodline of Lycans, Guardians of the mysterious Fort Mountain is all depending on her and her mate to continue the line or it would be the end for the Lycans. Now the hero of the novel and series is Daniel Maxwell, the handsome, dark, yet mysterious scientist returns home for the funeral and he has definitely has changed, but his love for Julie remains the same. She is what he has always wanted, has always been what he needs in his life though he has never said anything about it to Julie. Daniel would die for her and he would kill for her because that is how passionate and true his love for her is.

The passions begin to flare and so does the romance between Julie and Daniel though it seems like it is going to fast they don't know or want it to stop. Joining forces with a mysterious group of moon-eyed people, together they must prepare for the ultimate battle—the battle against a deadly pack of werewolves. Can Julie and Daniel's love be strong enough to protect them from their dangerous desires? Or will they be forever lost in the Dark of kNight? Well I think that Julie and Daniel's love is strong enough to protect them from their dangerous desires because they have the determination to live and love one another that being lost in the dark of kNight is not an option for them. It took reading the first two chapters to hook me into the plot of the novel and not let me go even after I had finished the novel to the start of what I can tell will be an intriguing and suspenseful series. T.L. Mitchell delivers an exciting and suspenseful debut paranormal romance novel that will captivate you from the start and will have you wondering what would happen next for Julie and Daniel as well as the rest of the wonderfully written secondary characters. After reading this novel I was sad that the novel had to end but was excited that Julie and Daniel with the rest of the secondary characters would be coming back for another round in the second novel, Fall of kNight, in her Dark of kNight series. This is a series that I will definitely be keeping an eye out for because it has everything I need in a series, wonderful primary and secondary characters that capture my interest from the start, a suspenseful and exciting plot that has me wanting more and definitely the paranormal element that takes me out of my everyday life. I give this book 4 Open Books:

This is a moment in history for me.  My first book.  My first book to make it to the bookstore shelves.  My first booksigning.  Could it be one of many more firsts?

Yes, today was the first day Dark of kNight was released in the bookstore shelves of Waldenbooks.  It actually didn't hit me until a few moments ago as to what this means.  The book signing was a success.  According to the store manager, my book signing was their most successful booksigning for the summer.

Many, many thanks goes to my friends, ALL OF YOU, my fans and the wonderful people who purchased Dark of kNight.  Many thanks to each of you.

I enjoyed meeting all of the customers and talking with them.  There are a few people out there I have meet over the weekend who are aspiring writers.  I do hope, if you are reading this, you will introduce yourself.  There are some great authors, who care, within this website.  Many of them shared the heartaches, tears and headaches of publishing and can offer great advice.  This is a place you will find safety and words of wisdom.

I have posted the pictures.  Hope you all enjoy them.  One thing, I wished I had a group photo of my Adams Family.  I thank you all for coming out and giving me a big "Shout Out!" .

Thanks to everyone for making Dark of kNight successful.

A special thanks to  Pam for letting Katy use your camera to take pictures.  You guys did great.

OH if you look carefully at the wall picture of the book, you will see my book beside Twilight, Keri Author and Karen Marie Moning.  Does this mean something????  All these books are best sellers.  LOL.

Smile everyone! & Thank you again.

A Secrect Legacy with a Supernatural Destiny! Now that's my kind of story!

By Shannon Bailey, author of Forever David's and Develyn's Tale

In this terrific T.L. Mitchell debut novel, you'll find that and more.  Julie Knight returns home under the worst possible circumstances and her life takes a romatic and unexpected turn when she discovers her past can no longer be hidden in the dark of night.

Once confronted with this extraordinary secret, Julie is gently and lovingly introduced into her new world, the world of Lycans, by her one true love, her life-mate Daniel Maxwell. Just as the couple's relationship begins, they must face a pack of werewolves that threatens the very peace of their new life together, and as the story draws to an end, there's an exciting development that leaves readers craving more and anxiously awating, Fall of kNight.

Stay tuned for more from T.L. Mitchell!  You will not be disappointed.

Review by  Judy Conn,  Walden Books 0452    10/14/09

I read the Dark of kNight book by T.L. Mitchell, with little knowledge of the book or the author.  To my delight this story kicks off immediately, without a lot of dreary foreplay.  Ms. Mitchell catches your attention from the first and you keep wondering, what next?  While details make a story complete, no one needs 3 pages of the sun setting or the house burning down.  Dark of kNight provides the details when needed and a good dialogue to go hand in hand.

This new author has taken a poplular genre and gave it new life.  I would compare her writing to Keri Arthur, romance, suspense, humor and of course good and evil.
